Reduction in Land clearing effect gas emissions

Queensland Natural Resources Minister Craig Wallace states reductions in land clearing have cut the state's greenhouse gas emissions by the amount of 8.8 million tones over a 12-month period.

Mr. Wallace also stated land clearing rates dipped by 27 per cent during mid-2004 and mid-2005. He states that the ban on broad scale land clearing came into effect in January would even cause the figures to drop further.

"We expect to have beginning figures to display that reduction towards the end of this financial year but that's a huge boost for Queensland," he said.
