The minister for culture and sightseeing Atilla Koc held a press meeting last week to mark the opening of the 2007 excavation season, and likened the tumulus and archaeological sites across Turkey to oil springs.
According to the statistics offered by Duzgun, 298 excavation and 111 survey works were held during 2006 in which YTL 10,178,871 was allocated for these works. In 2007, the intended budget for excavation and survey works is YTL 10 million and this figure is predictable to increase with contributions by some other institutions.
