Turks visit Mughrabi excavation

A team of Turkish historians and archaeologists examined last week Mughrabi excavation site, which has provoked protests by Muslims who blame Israel of plotting to harm Islamic holy places.

Israel permitted the Turkish visit to the site in an effort to calm fears that the work will damage the close to compound of Al-Aksa Mosque. The excavation is meant to cover the way for construction of a fresh pedestrian walkway up to the compound, returning one that partly collapsed in a snowstorm three years ago.
