Land Clearing Home -> Build Pond Filter

To build Pond filter is very important, as it provides both mechanical and biological filtration. The pond filter materials help keeping debris from reaching the pond pumps and acts as a habitat for good bacteria offering biological filtration.

Pond filter has several versions, but Cbsexcavation is expert in offering land clearing aid and has the current version that is most effective and easy to manage, so that it is light enough to be pulled out by one person and require little attention during the summer months. Our build pond filter goes in to the pond in spring when the water temperature is around 50 degrees and it is taken out in the fall when the water temperature drops to the same level.

Things to be considered before you build pond filter:

• You should not locate it under trees where you would have leaves falling and pond filtration becomes difficult.
• Power and water sources needs to be available.
• Keep away from the area of flood. The area you choose is level and the soil has good drainage systems.
• Remember where tree roots would be in respect to your pond.
• Concentrate on the pond shape you like, could be limited to your imagination and budget.
• Check with your local building codes concerning pond area; you may sometime need a building permit as well.
• Remember that if you want to have fish, you would require a mechanical pond filter to remove debris particles from the water, and a biological filter to assist control nitrogen levels.

Steps Involved

• Look for an old plastic waste can with lid. Make a drainage center hold in the can, on the side near the bottom. Position the can so that it run-off from the drainage pipe hole would return to pond.
• Fill the can with neat and clean filtration material.
• Submerge a pond pump into the pond.
• Turn on your pond pump. Water would flow out to top of can, through filter material, back out through drainage center hole and into pond.
